There's Anke keeping the secret of her fathers abuse. Here's the book description written on the book's cover flap: ANKE'S FATHER IS ABUSIVE. Feb 13, 2009 - Because I Am Furniture is about Anke and her family, which hides many secrets. The story felt a little disjointed since there's several smaller stories going on. Oct 3, 2011 - Even the title – Because I Am Furniture – gives you a view into her mental state. I read it anyway to reach outside of my comfort zone. All written in poetry which is truly not my thing. Although they don't let anyone know, Anke's father is abusive and harms her brother and sister. Anke doesn't feel human at home: she feels like an object, taken for granted, hardly noticed, like furniture. Mar 23, 2013 - I did enjoy Because I Am Furniture, but not as much as I was expecting to. Apr 17, 2013 - It took me about two and a half hours to finish this book. The jacket sounded interesting, so I checked it out without flipping the pages.
